Vietnamese Music 2021: 10 Viet artists you HAVE to listen to



1. Xuân Nghi

Genre: Indie | R&B

















Xuân Nghi (born May 13th, 1994 ịn Đà Lạt), is a singer-songwriter. Nghi was once a famous child singer, releasing 5 albums and starring in 8 dramas. At 16, Nghi decided to quit the music industry to study abroad in the U.S.


10 years later, Nghi returns to the Vietnamese showbiz, debuting her single, Summer Night in 2019. The song topped the Top 50 Viral Vietnam Spotify and Top 10 Apple Music Vietnam. Nghi's most recent single, umakeme, has 841,169 streams on Spotify and 730,524 views on YouTube.


2. tlinh

Genre: Hip hop | Indie

















tlinh (born on October 7th, 2000 as Nguyễn Thảo Linh), with the nickname Mun, is a very talented rapper, dancer, and singer from Hanoi, Vietnam. tlinh started out as a dancer in Last Fire Crew, one of the most famous hip-hop dance groups among Vietnamese youth.


After going on the show Rap Viet, tlinh has blown up, becoming famous with songs such as Thích Quá Rùi Nà, Tình Yêu Bận Bịu, Vứt Zác, and her collab with Hoàng Yến Chibi và TDK, Yêu Thầm. tlinh has recently released her MV, ‘Gái Độc Thân” on the 30th of June this year.



3. Thịnh Suy

Genre: Indie | Pop




















Thịnh Suy is a singer/ songwriter, a prominent figure in the Vietnamese indie scene, with hits such as "Chuyện Rằng", "Tình Yêu Xanh Lá", "Nghe Em", "Mai Mình Xa", "Một đêm say". Thịnh is well-known for his laid-back, chill style, utilizing a lo-fi and minimalistic sound in his music.


After the success of "Một đêm say", Thịnh Suy has become one of the most popular indie artists in Vietnam. Summer Vibe, a collaboration with Pay, was recently released on June 11th.




4. Rapital

Genre: Hip hop | R&B
















Rapital (a.k.a RPT) was formed on the 6th of June back in 2018, under the name V69 Team. Rapital is a band of young rappers, producers và guitarists with a passion for Hip-hop. As V69 Team, members of Rapital have a name for themselves by organizing freestyle rap battles, “V69 Jam” and “OG Nation Night”, creating a platform for aspiring new Vietnamese rappers.


Some of Rapital's most well-known songs include, "Thủ đô" and "Rap Chậm Thôi". Recently, Rapital has released a new EP called Rapitalove.


5. Chillies

Genre: Pop rock | Alternative


















Chillies is an indie band of 5, Khang, Nhím, Phước, Đức and Phú. Chillies's sound is mainly Pop, Ballad and Rock, and hugely influenced by The Beatles. The band debuted in late October 2018, with the single "Who?" about Tinder. Some of the band's most notable songs are "Và Thế Là Hết", "Nếu Ngày Mai Không Đến", "Những Con Đường Song Song", "Cảm Ơn Và Xin Lỗi" and "Mascara".

From a small, relatively unknown band, Chillies has garnered a huge amount of fans in Vietnam. Recently, Chillies has released their debut studio album, “Qua khung cửa sổ” on May 7th this year.



6. Mỹ Anh

Genre: Indie | R&B















Mỹ Anh, born in 2002, is the youngest daughter of legendary V-Pop diva, Mỹ Linh. Mỹ Anh quite stands out from the crowd, with her artistic visuals and an alternative sound.

Mỹ Anh debuting with Got You, released 15th of May last year, has proven her immense potential. Recently, Mỹ Anh has released her new single, 'Pillars' on June 27th.



7. Changg

Genre: Indie | Pop

















Changg, also known as, Nguyễn Huyền Trang, started out as a self-learning guitarist on Facebook groups. Before her official debut 'Hướng Dương', Changg has had some well-known collaborations such as Cưới Đi, Lỡ Say Bye Là Bye, Mirror…


'Lỡ Say Bye Là Bye' by Changg and Lemese has went viral in Vietnam for the lyrics "Chết rồi, mình đã lỡ chia tay người ta mất rồi", which translates to "Fuck, I accidentally broke up with them". The song has over 22 million views on Youtube YouTube and 2 million streams on Spotify, entering Vietnam's Top Viral.



8. Phùng Khánh Linh

Genre: Pop














Phùng Khánh Linh is one of the most popular singers in Vietnam as of recent. On The Voice Vietnam season 3, all 4 judges, Mỹ Tâm, Đàm Vĩnh Hưng, Thu Phương and Tuấn Hưng turned their chairs for Linh. Linh has received wide acclaim, with “Hôm Nay Tôi Buồn”, which garnered her 'Song of the Year' and 'Best New Artist' at the Cống Hiến Awards.


With beautiful, impressive vocals and talent in songwriting, Phùng Khánh Linh has deservedly become one of the most successful Vietnamese singers of today.


9. AMEE

Genre: Pop | Indie















AMEE, born Trần Huyền My, is a Vietnamese pop singer. She has gone viral with her hit, 'Đen đá không đường', which racked up 2 million views on YouTube on its first day and went on Trending.


AMEE possesses a cutesy, joyous voice. Despite criticisms by some for not having an impressive range, AMEE has stood her ground regardless, becoming one of the most popular Vietnamese singers in recent years.


10. Wxrdie

Genre: Hip hop | Trap














Phạm Nam Hải, known by his stage name, Wxrdie, was born on February 2nd, 2000 in Hanoi, Vietnam. Wxrdie is an incredibly talented rapper, and is one of the most prominent figure of the Vietnamese underground scene. Wxrdie is known for his fast flow, catchy tunes, his incredible rhyme schemes, leaving an impression on listeners.

Recently, Wxrdie has released his collaboration with RPT Phongkin named “WISHLIST".
